Hahndorf Academy is hiring a Retail Manager for our vibrant, contemporary shop in Hahndorf’s iconic heritage building in Main Street. We are a leading art, cultural and heritage organisation with a shop, galleries, museum, studios and workshop program. With 195,000 visitors a year, your work will promote over 100 South Australian artists. Importantly it provides an essential income to fund our operation as a not-for-profit service to the community.
Our small team comprises our Director, Retail Manager, Project Officer and Finance Officer with a loyal team of volunteers who assist in the shop, museum collection and at exhibition openings.
The Role
Communication
Working in a small team, good communication is essential along with a flexible approach in a busy and dynamic workplace. You will deal with the public, artists, suppliers, volunteers and colleagues and show initiative in handling day-to-day issues.
Technical Skills
Familiarity with Lightspeed POS, Shopify (or similar) and Excel is important for managing inventory, end of month reporting – generating sales reports for wholesale and consignment and invoicing. We want to increase the income from our online shop by expanding our customer base. Social media is an important part of getting our messages out to our community and beyond.
The Shop
Curate a vibrant and engaging visitor experience from a range of handmade creative works in glass, ceramics, prints, textiles, books, jewellery and original artworks. Provide support and advice to artists and makers; promote and merchandise their works and source new suppliers. Encourage visitors to buy and demonstrate your selling skills to inspire volunteers to emulate them.
Key Selection Criteria
Please demonstrate how your experience and capabilities match the below criteria.
Essential Criteria:
Retail management experience
Demonstrated experience managing a premium retail environment
Sales and commercial acumen
Proven ability to sell; meet budgets and sales targets and grow revenue through excellent customer service and product knowledge
Visual merchandising
Strong visual merchandising skills with the ability to create engaging displays that reflect Hahndorf Academy’s artists and showcase South Australian art and design
Customer experience
Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to build long-term relationships with collectors, designers, artists, visitors and tourists
Inventory and retail operations
Experience managing inventory, ordering stock, POS systems and retail administration
Working with volunteers
Experience working collaboratively with others, and to attract nurture and develop a team of volunteers
Organisation and Planning
Highly organised with attention to detail and an ability to manage competing priorities
Desirable Criteria
Experience in gallery, cultural or creative industries
Ability to work with online sales and e-commerce platforms
Hours and Salary
• 4 or 5 days per week (30-37.5 hours)
• $57,000 - $63,000 + Super (pro rata)
• Some public holiday and weekend work.
