Located in a beautiful heritage building on the Main Street of Hahndorf with a stunning shop showcasing SA artists and creative makers. We are the second most visited gallery in South Australia and we have a contemporary exhibition program with regular rotating exhibitions. Our museum displays artefacts and stories about the First Nations people, German settlers and early 19thC village life. We run regular creative workshops and events and love supporting artists.

We are in the Mount Barker District of the Adelaide Hills - only 30mins south east of the city!

We are open 364 days of the year 10am-5pm.

68 Main Street, Hahndorf SA 5245 - 08 8388 7250

Hahndorf was originally named Bukatila or Barkatilla, meaning deep pool. Hahndorf Academy acknowledges that we work and walk upon the ancient lands of the First Nation People and pay our respect to Peramangk and Kaurna Elders past and living today as the traditional custodians of this ancient land.

Emmalene Wines

We are proudly sponsored by Emmalene Wines - natural, family-made wines from the Adelaide Hills. Their wines are made naturally with minimal additions and filtration and are vegan friendly. Their vineyards are farmed with sustainability front of mind - they are carbon neutral, utilise solar, organic compost, permanent cover crops and winter grazing to minimise their impact on the environment from which they grow.

"The Emmalene vision is simple: to grow fruit that best reflects the site, and to make wine that best reflects the fruit."

WORKSHOPS

Ceramics at Hahndorf Academy

New Classes Starting in May

Hahndorf Academy offers ceramics classes for kids, teens, beginners and intermediate learners.

We have recently introduced a new course, Introduction to Ceramics, for those who are interested in starting with hand built vessel construction. You’ll learn the fundamentals of coil and slab building, with additional time for different finishes and experimentation.

In our very popular Contemporary Ceramics class, you’ll learn how to create amazing, wheel-thrown forms and master different glazes and surface treatments, with plenty of room to tailor your learning to your interests.

Kids can also get into producing ceramics with our Ceramics After School programme, suitable for ages 7 - 16.

Check out the different offerings below, we’re sure you’ll love working in this ancient and beautiful medium, guided by our expert potters Guy Ringwood, Suzanne Healey and Lesa Farrant.
