Artist of the Month
JANE BURBIDGE
Jane Burbidge works full time as a ceramicist in her studio in the Adelaide Hills and she has had many years of experience working at the Jam factory in the ceramics department.
Jane’s works are inspired by nature and the natural environment and from the effects that nature has on manmade items.
She has an interest in Archaeology and Palaeontology and the strata layers in which the remaining shards, remnants and artefacts have been encased. And these influences have led Jane to speculate that, the death of a living organism- or demise of a culture- is not the end. Rather, it is the beginning of the removal of outer layers to reveal innermost secrets. And the artefacts become a part of the earth and gain an artistic beauty with the passing of time and effects of weathering, erosion and decay.
These ceramics are wheel thrown porcelain; hand carved and slip cast porcelain with a shellac resist decoration. They are microwave and dishwasher proof.
