Artist in Residence Karol Oakley

Karol is a Queensland artist and she is thrilled to be working on site in Hahndorf and running workshops. She admires our Adelaide Hills landscape and work by Sir Hans Heysen and her experience is extensive as an artist and teacher. She is running workshops in pastels, oil paints, pen and wash and sketching. Her themes are landscapes, waterscapes, portraits and still life so plenty to interest everyone. Karol will be exhibiting with us during this time, running workshops and working on site in the gallery, the Hahndorf Academy gardens and also at the Cedars, Home and studio or Sir Hans Heysen.

A Half Day Workshop:  9am to 12 Noon

URBAN Painting and Sketching, in oils, pastels and pen and wash.

The grounds of the Hahndorf Academy  provide the urban view with the surrounding buildings and interesting features as subjects for a mornings painting. This half day paint-out is untutored and could be a follow on from yesterday’s workshop, “Landscape in Oils and Pastels”. It is about getting out into the great outdoors to practice your new-found skills and with new painting friends, weather permitting. Karol will demonstrate, showing you how to deal simply with issues such as perspective and the changing light. There will be no pressure on anyone to complete a painting, but rather to find as much information within the painting construct as possible for future reference.
