Artist talk March 21 10am - 11am (free event)

A practical workshop with exhibiting artist Anna Glynn exploring techniques referencing colonial historical images through a contemporary lens. You will work with watercolour, pencil and ink on paper.

The workshop will begin with a casual one-hour walking tour of the exhibition where Anna will discuss her artistic process and techniques.

  • Introduction to the works and themes of the exhibition, history etc.

  • Exercise 1 – silhouette in B&W ink & water, demo use of brush, water, design elements, select historical image, positive and negative space, placement etc.

  •  Exercise 1 – Part 2 infill design with pencil and ink, use of pencils, water, drawing techniques, text

  • Exercise 2 – watercolour, colonial tradition of copying, reference a combination of colonial artworks to create a reimagined work through paint, ink, pencil, wet surface, dry surface

  • Exercise 3 – choose either 1 or 2 to further develop

  • Please bring your own lunch (sandwich for example) so that you can stay in the studio area
