Life Drawing Classes with Arty Types

Our Exciting beginner's course in life drawing starts soon.

The course will run for 9 weeks (3rd April - 29th May) and will include life models.

This course will be loads of fun and cover proportion, basic human anatomical shape, mark making, dynamic drawing styles, an array of poses including action and influences from various notable artists.

Tutor: Rebecca Prince of Arty Types.
Time: Mondays 6pm till 8:30pm.
Cost: $270 for all 9 sessions
Place: upstairs gallery space at the Hahndorf Academy
Materials: basics and easels included but students will need to purchase their own charcoals and chalk pastels. The Paint Box in Hahndorf has great supplies and can help you with anything you need.

Tea provided.

Creative Painting in Acrylics with Talya Caplan


FROM 14 MAY- 2 JULY 10:30AM UNTIL 12:30PM

COST OF $200


Facilitated by Talya Caplan, artist, career teacher and director at Art Circle, you will learn colour theory, colour mixing tips, paint application and brush technique.

You will also explore subject matter and composition to create a final acrylic painting on board. An ongoing project over eight sessions, "Creative Painting in Acrylics" is an investigation of styles and fun ways to make artistic decisions.

The course cost of $200 per person includes a primed board and use of an easel in the studio. Paint and paper materials will be supplied for initial trials and preliminaries whilst each painter will need to bring their own acrylic paint colours to each class.

Painting kits and materials are available at the paintbox at special academy prices for registered students.

Using inspiration from the Global Oceans exhibition, you can create your own underwater scene, with endless variations, with the simplest of printmaking materials.

Sunday March 12th 10-3.30 pm $65 includes all materials

Deborah will introduce you to weaving with natural and recycledmaterials.  Find out about useful materials                                                                                                                      Explore weaving and twining through creating a small basket from a takeaway coffee cup then create a sculptural piece with sticks and leaves.

David Archer - Archers Arcadia “Wacky Wire Critterbug” Workshop

The workshop involves each participant creating their own personalized interactive sculpture that they can take home; using some recycled materials, integrating ideas of environment, science (kinetics/physics) and design…. but mostly it’s fun!

There are limited spaces available for this popular workshop.
Suits participants aged from 8 to 14yrs old

“Critterbug”: A morphed insect animal that wobbles and flaps.

Multicolored and bright. No two are the same in the entire Universe.


Workshop outline

- Welcome and introductions from the artist and pupils

- Outline of the day’s activities and possible results

- Short video on the artists practice

- Explanation of what automata is

- Look at several art works and the mechanisms used

- The use of recycled materials                                                                                                                                                                           - Examination of working models and mechanisms                                                                                       - - Tour of David’s exhibition in the gallery space

- Selected books on the subject on view for ideas                              

-  Each participant will have a kit to use


Workshop process

- Selection of materials for individual bugs, involving a lucky dip!

- As a group, guided step by step construction of the Wacky Wire Critterbug

- The drawing and designing of individual elements; template making

- Assembly of parts, fitting of mechanism and decoration of bug
